What Would you do with a Week in Barbados?

The true beauty of a Barbados vacation is as much about the people you meet as the places you visit. Passing your time in Barbados is never an issue, with its true diversity of activities and vibrant night life, we thought we’d present you with a sample week of activities in March. Here’s one of many ways that we think you’d enjoy:

A Great Meal Can Make all the Difference

Is a delightful meal with your partner, friends, family your thing? Then Barbados has something to offer you at every level. One of the things which sets our island apart from the others in the Caribbean is our excellent restaurant stock. One of the memories which endures with many visitors is the availability of options for great meals.  Fine dining is represented along the platinum coast in abundance and is now making inroads into the other main tourism belt on the south coast.

It’s Winter in Barbados

Ok, so we’ll be the first to admit that your winter may not be going as swimmingly as ours is here in tropical Barbados, but that doesn’t mean we’re not struggling with (average) 26°C (79°F) temperatures sweeping the island!  We’re determined to make the best of it!

Calabaza Lunch Cruise

Booked ourselves for a lunch cruise on Friday 30 January 2015 - the day started beautifully with blue skies, sunshine and a refreshing breeze.  We opted to drive to the Shallow Draft located just outside of Bridgetown on the Spring Garden Highway which is also home to Atlantis Submarine and various other cruise boats.  We were warmly welcomed by Gina who directed us to our catamaran (they have two!) and introduced us to our Captain and crew, Danny, Fabian and "Rebel".  Waiting on the table was carrot cake, coffee and tea - perfect for our 9.30 a.m. start.

Sunday Beach Picnic

Living on the island never gets boring - so much to do and, for us, a beach picnic is one of the best ways to spend a Sunday.  The planning and preparation is the hard part, once the jeep is packed with the necessary umbrellas, beach chairs, coolers and the like we are off.  This is just north of Speightstown, just off Almond Beach and Port St Charles.
The guys get the picnic site sorted and the BBQ lit and we are ready for an ice cold beer and on this occasion, some very chilled bubbles to help celebrate a birthday!

Daphnes Barbados Restaurant Review

After a weekend of work and needing a break we made an impromptu decision to go to Daphnes Barbados late Sunday afternoon.  Went online to check out their menu and opening hours and called them at 4.30 p.m. to see if we could come to the bar for a sundowner drink and have an early dinner.  I confirmed that the Summer Menu was available and we got the reservation for 6.30 p.m.

Nishi Restaurant in Barbados

Decided to surprise my youngest daughter with dinner at  Nishi Restaurant to celebrate her 15th birthday on 01 October 2014.  Luckily Nishi was reopening that night after several weeks of renovations and refurbishments so we were really looking forward to this evening to see all the changes.

Race of Champions 2014

Race of Champions 2014 will be hosted by Bushy Park Circuit and it promises to be an action packed motor sport weekend in Barbados,  The ROC2014 brings together some of the world's best drivers from Formula 1, World Rally, Le Mans, Nascar, IndyCar, Touring Cars, X-Games and MotoGP where they all race head to head in identical cars to see who is the fastest!

Barbados Green Monkeys

Look at these creatures that popped into visit on Monday afternoon - the Barbados Green Monkeys living in our area of Durants Village, Holders Hill, St James.  The neighbour's mango tree was the attraction and they had quite a session raiding the tree.  These creatures are wild so you should always keep your distance however with a zoom lens on your camera you can capture these kind of moments when you are in Barbados.  The best place to see them would be at the Barbados Wildlife Reserve, Welchman Hall Gully and Flower Forest to name a few.

Cricket at Kensington Oval

The 3rd Test series of cricket will now be held at The Kensington Oval in Barbados.  The Third Test was originally scheduled to be played at the Guyana National Stadium but was relocated following the Cricket Board and the Government of Guyana not being able to find a mutually agreeable resolution relating to the Cricket Administration Bill.  The first match of the test will be played at Sabina Park, Jamaica from 08 - 12 June with the second test being played at Sabina Park in Trinidad and Tobago from 16 - 20 June.
