After a weekend of work and needing a break we made an impromptu decision to go to Daphnes Barbados late Sunday afternoon.  Went online to check out their menu and opening hours and called them at 4.30 p.m. to see if we could come to the bar for a sundowner drink and have an early dinner.  I confirmed that the Summer Menu was available and we got the reservation for 6.30 p.m. and got ready – luckily we live literally down the hill from Daphnes.  The Summer Menu is a set menu with a variety of selection for Starters, Main and Dessert.  Two courses for BD$99.00 and three courses BD$119.00 inclusive of VAT and a discretionary 10% service charge.  For tables of 8 there is a 15% service charge.

My husband, myself and our two daughters arrived about 5.20 p.m. and sat in the lounge area and we ordered drinks.  I decided to have a watermelon martini to start which was lovely and refreshing!  We also ordered some tapas – chicken fingers, calamari and olives and chatted over our drinks until we were asked if we wanted to go to our table which was ready and  so we  were escorted to our waterside table which was perfectly positioned.  It was quite private having no other tables either side rather like a gazebo and had an ocean view.  It is a shame we stayed in the lounge area – next time would definitely sit on the deck area where they had some tables set up which would have been the perfect place to watch the sunset!  We will know for next time.

Once we were sat down and had the specials for the evening the waiter came with some lovely fresh bread and cheese sticks, olive oil and olives.  We ordered a bottle of red and they took our orders.  My starter (the girls had the same) of seafood selections was divine and presented beautifully in a large squared glass plate with nine sections holding Octopus Ceviche, Kingfish Carpaccio and Tuna Tartare coupled with some lettuce greens and a fresh mango salsa.  The carpaccio was especially good.  My husband had the Bacon-Infused Sweet Potato Ravioli with Black-Belly Lamb Ragout and declared it delicious.

For our mains we (girls had the same) ordered Grilled Rib Eye Steak, Sweet Potato Chips, Fried Beet Shoestrings and Chipotle Dip and my husband ordered Pork Chop Milanese with Pickled Green Banana and Pumpkin.  The steak was grilled perfectly, the sweet potato fries were crinkle cut and crisp on the outside and the chipotle dip was spicy.  Husband enjoyed his meal and cleaned the plate and even finished off my steak (it was a large piece!).

We decided to end with two orders of the selection of tropical sorbets – they brought us the six choices and while all good, the mango and coconut were especially so! 

Have to admit it has been quite a long time since our last visit and we were very pleasantly surprised by the service, the quality of the meal and the price!  Go to Daphnes, enjoy the waterside setting and be prepared for a very pleasant evening.  We will definitely be back!
